Strategic plan

Ambition on an International Scale

2014 was marked by large events revealing the dynamic of the Lille site, with projects coming to reinforce our international laboratories: LIMMS, CAT/P4BIO, CINTRA, EGID and the acquisition of large equipment such as a 1200mHz NMR.

Since September 2014, the three institutions use a single "University of Lille" signature for scientific publications.

The following pillars reflect the research strategy of the University of Lille.

 

 

 

 

An increase in the number of doctors educated in the region is a priority. The three Lille institutions will thus reinforce their participation in the doctoral college supported by the COMUE (Community of Universities and Institutions) and establish a University of Lille doctorate.

During the year 2015, laboratories of the three institutions will move to a common administrative structure for smoother management, which will include staff-management dialogue and a single budget. For each laboratory, a steering committee will suggest a distribution of the means allocated by supervising institutions, and the management will be delegated to only one institution.

A main objective will be to strengthen and make more visible shared technology platforms and high-quality equipment of the University, by granting them means of their own. Consideration has also be given to enacting an economic model that will lead to the self-financing of these platforms and make them a part of national and international networks.

The policy for increasing the University's appeal will be based on founding interdisciplinary projects, bringing in post-docs, visiting researchers, and chairs, as well as on scientific leadership, especially within the Euroregion and Northwest Europe.

Research will be increasingly exploited for economic and social needs, an important activity for the University. Basic research must remain focused on and promote innovation.

With its 62 laboratories, many of which are associated with research organizations (CNRS, Inserm, Inria, Inra,...), the University of Lille includes several Equipex and Labex designations and grants:

ImaginEx BioMed : High resolution analysis and high throughput screening microscopy platform

ExCELSiOR : Experimental centre for the study of nanodevice properties though a broad spectrum of means, from DC toinfrared.

IrDIVE : Research and innovation in digital visual and interactive environment

LEAF : Laser processing platform for multi-functional flexible electronics

REALCAT : Integrated platform for the high throughput screening of catalysts for biorefineries

LIGAN : Lille's next-generation genome sequencing platform

* Equipex : Top-quality equipment or literally "Equipment of Excellence" is part of the Investing for the Future programme launched by the French government. The first action of this programme is an investment for financing of high-standard facilities of intermediate size (between 1 and 20 million euros).

Doctoral Schools

With 2500 PhD students, the aim of the Lille Northern France Doctoral School is to:
    •    Provide PhD students with an excellent education, with the guarantee of quality academic supervision,
    •    Strengthen l'interdisciplinarity and internationalization of doctoral studies,
    •    Prepare doctoral candidates for their career, in particular by opening pathways between the university sphere and key players in society.
