The course change at the end of S1 and S3 concerns you if you are currently enrolled in your first or second year at a French higher education institution in France.

Please note that you are not automatically entitled to change course. We recommend that you don’t quit the course in which you are currently enrolled. In addition, not all courses accept transferring students.

So please don’t hesitate to contact the University course guidance and information service (service universitaire d’accompagnement d'information et d’orientation; SUAIO). In order to provide you with the best possible support, we are organising the following events during this period:

  • Information meetings to present the application procedure and available courses;
  • Brainstorming workshops for preparing and helping with applications.

Special case

Students who are enrolled at both a CPGE/University of Lille (schools operating under agreement with the university) who wish to join the University of Lille are invited to contact the student affairs office responsible for the course in question. They are not affected by the procedure for changing course, unless they wish to join a course other than the one for which they have applied for dual enrolment. In this case, they must complete the procedure for changing course.

If, at the end of your course, you wish to start a new course from first year (licence1, BUT1, BTS1, etc.) in the following year, you must reapply through Parcoursup.

To consolidate your plans, we invite you to attend student fairs and open days to meet our teaching staff and find out more about studying here.

The university course guidance and information service (service universitaire d’accompagnement et d’information pour l’orientation; SUAIO) organises a series of events from February to March:

  • Information meetings to present the application procedure and answer questions;

  • Set office hours to help you make your choices and assist you with any technical difficulties you may encounter.

Key dates: February to March

If you have completed your first year (or are thinking of completing your year), you can switch to a different course at the University of Lille in 2nd year.

Each course has its own application timetable, and most open between March and April for varying periods of time. You should therefore regularly check the ‘available courses’ tab of the Ecandidat application to see if the course you’re interested in is listed and find out the application period, whether the course you’re interested in is selective or not.

The university course guidance and information service (service universitaire d’accompagnement et d’information pour l’orientation;SUAIO)can advise and support you as you think about your new study plans. Teaching staff also take into account previous experience, which they compare against the prerequisites for the course you’re interested in. The greater the coherence between the two, the more likely the student is to be accepted on to the course.

And to help you...

Take stock of what hasn’t gone well on your current course and try to identify the reasons why you’re considering this change: is it a problem with the pace? With the content? Are the courses too theoretical or better suited to your plans?
Take stock of your desires, your passions, your skills, what drives you and what holds you back in life. This phase is essential for developing your study and career plans.

Before attending the information meeting and workshop for changing course, check the list of courses to which you are able to transfer.Some courses do not allow students to transfer in the second semester.

  • Have discussions with other students attending the workshop;
  • Benefit from the support and advice of a guidance officer;
  • Firm up your study and career plans by writing a cover letter.

Once the workshop has been completed, a guidance officer will approve your application so that it can be forwarded to the course director, so he/she can review it and make a decision.

You will need:

  • a copy of the current year’s proof of enrolment certificate
  • report cards from your final year of secondary school and the results of your baccalauréat

  • notify the CROUS of the change of course;
  • contact the teaching secretariat for the new course;
