Nearly five centuries of history

  • 1559: Creation of the University of Lille forerunner in Douai
  • 1854: Creation of the Lille Faculty of Science, of which Louis Pasteur was the first ever dean
  • 1896: Transfer of faculties and birth of the University of Lille, presided over by the rector
  • 1968: New law leads to the university splitting into three separate institutions (Lille 1, 2, 3)
  • 2018: The three universities are merged to create the first autonomous University of Lille
  • 2022: The the University of Lille, a new institution integrating four grandes écoles
