The university is managed democratically, with the participation of all staff, students and individuals from outside the university.
Governance
It is governed by its President, assisted by the Management Committee (comité de direction; Codir), central councils (Governing Council, Study and University Life Council and Scientific Council), and councils of the member schools, faculties and institutes.

2023-2024, a pivotal year in governance
Created on 1 January 2022, the new institution, the ‘University of Lille’, which brings together faculties, institutes and renowned schools, reorganised its governance by granting more decision-making powers to all itsmember schools, faculties and institutes. The intervening years have been marked by various electoral processes. The renewal of student representatives on the central councils thus took place in November 2023, followed by the complete renewal of the councils of the member schools, faculties and institutes in March 2024.
Since1 June 2024, the member schools, faculties and institutes have begun to exercise their new powers effectively, making local decisions in various areas such as studies, human resources, international relations and university life. The central councils have now refocused on defining the institution’s overall strategy.
