There are many ways for students to find accommodation: Crous university residences, private residences, renting from private individuals, etc.
Below you will find a range of resources to help you in your search for accommodation. You can also consult the accommodation guide for international students, which covers a wealth of resources addressing all aspects of student accommodation.
Make sure your place of study is confirmed before looking for accommodation. The campuses of the University of Lille are spreadacross the Lille metropolitan area.
Where should I stay?
In a Crous university residence
Their university residences are often located close to campuses so that students can concentrate on their studies. Priority is given to students with grants.
To secure accommodation in university residences, each year students must submit a student social application (DSE) at https://www.messervices.etudiant.gouv.fr/envole/ (even before you have the results of your exams or baccalaureate) and tick the ‘apply for accommodation’ box at the end of the process. Accommodation offers can be found at https://trouverunlogement.lescrous.fr/
In a private home
With the Crous Lokaviz system
Every advert is checked. The accommodation is accredited based on carefully defined criteria. To access owners’ contact details, log in via the Lokavizportal.
The Lokaviz system
LokaviZ label criteria
This ‘CROUS label’ is based on four main areas of focus:
- quality, assessed in terms of the regulatory criteria for decent housing and buildings’ energy performance,
- the cost of rent, service charges and any additional services,
- compliance with good practice in terms of landlord-tenant relations,
- location, taking into account proximity to higher education institutions, public transport or cycling journey times, and sports and cultural facilities.
- the cost of rent, service charges and any additional services (only if you are applying for the ‘Lokaviz +’ label)

Shared apartment
with EKNA
EKNA is a new solution for shared accommodation in the Lille area. It puts tenants and landlords in touch with each other using an objective and fair application scoring system, and a relationship compatibility system to match up profiles. It has developed a platform (and a mobile application) to help landlords and tenants get in touch with each other:
- by boosting candidates’ applications to maximise their chances and enable them to apply to different advertisements with no limits or constraints on the number of applications they can submit (dematerialisation and automation);
- by providing landlords with greater security (scoring of applications, compatibility of relationships between tenants, automated payment) to encourage them to offer this type of accommodation.
Action Logement is a partner of EKNA (Action Logement Services Hauts-de-France financially supported the launch).
About Action Logement
For almost 70 years, Action Logement, the leading player in social and intermediary housing in France, has been committed to facilitating access to housing in order to promote employment. Action Logement jointly manages the Participation des Employeurs à l’Effort de Construction (PEEC) fund, and focuses its efforts on supporting priority groups such as low-income employees, those in difficulty or on the move, and young workers.
Sharing accommodation as part of a community project
Solidarity Project Shared Accommodation - AFEV
For young people (aged 18 to 30) who are students, have a few hours a week to spare, and are keen to get involved with the people they live with and their neighbours as part of community projects in their neighbourhood. Feeling involved in the issues facing a working-class neighbourhood, meeting its residents, listening to them, working with them to improve their daily lives, rebuilding ties between neighbours, thinking of original, creative projects, sharing the same desires and values as the people you live with – that’s what being a ‘kapseur’ is all about, it’s a real life experience!
