Student involvement is a real field of experimentation, offering students a great opportunity to develop as citizens and to stand out from the crowd. The university has a number of mechanisms for recognising and promoting this involvement.
Different forms of involvement
Volunteering
Environment, humanitarian work, disability, culture, health, campus activities, sport, etc. There are many (over a hundred) very active associations working on the university campuses! And if you want to get involved outside your campus, there are over 1.5 million voluntary organisations in France just waiting for you!
Civic service
Civic service is a paid voluntary commitment (over €570) that is in the public interest. All it requires is motivation and there are no educational requirements. It is open to all young people aged 16 to 25. Lasting between 6 and 12 months, civic service can be carried out through associations, local authorities or public institutions such as your university, in France or abroad.
Becoming an elected student representative
The aim of student representative organisations is to defend students’ interests and to ensure that their voice is heard within the university’s decision-making and consultative bodies. Study conditions, scientific research, student life, accommodation, university catering, etc. These are all issues that students need to defend.
Getting your involvement recognised and promoted
Special adjustments to conditions of study are available to help students reconcile their studies with their other commitments. Whether it’s:
- as part of an association within the university or an association whose values and activities are in line with the university’s values,
- as part of a civic service, as a military operational reserve volunteer, or as a volunteer firefighter.
Taking time out for a voluntary experience
Gap year
Would you like to take a temporary break from your studies to take part in a personal, professional or voluntary experience in France or abroad? Think about taking a gap year!
The compte d’engagement citoyen (Citizen Engagement Account; CEC)
A component of the compte personnel d’activité (Personal Activity Account; CPA), the CEC records charitable or voluntary activities and allows you to earn training hours for your compte personnel de formation (Personal Training Account; CPF). The time required to earn €240 on your Personal Training Account (CPF) varies depending on the activity being carried out.
