Wi-Fi guests

The University of Lille is responsible for the processing of personal data, in particular for accessing the university’s Wi-Fi by providing accounts to invited persons.

This section describes the data held about you by the university, the reasons why it is held and your rights concerning this information. This processing is compulsory, and you cannot object to it unless you waive your right to access the university’s Wi-Fi service. You are affected by this processing if you use an account specially made available to you for the purpose of accessing the university’s Wi-Fi and are not an employee or member of the university.

The Information Systems Department collects and processes information about you in order to manage your Wi-Fi guest account. This information differs depending on the account assigned to you.

1 - Daily account:
A personal sponsor from the university will assign you a daily account. This account requires the collection of the following data: your identity (surname, first name) and your e-mail address.

2 - Extended registered account:
A personal sponsor from the university will assign you an account for a fixed period. This account requires the collection of the following data: your identity (surname, first name) and your e-mail address.

3 - Generic account:
A personal sponsor from the university will provide event participants with a unique, collective user ID. No personal data about you is collected other than connection logs when you use the network.

This data enables the Information Systems Department to give you access to the university’s Wi-Fi for a specific period of time, according to your defined needs.

This data is not shared or transferred.

Data is stored for 14 months after the account expires and is then permanently erased.

Under the extended registered account, you have the following rights:

  • right to be informed;
  • right of access;
  • right to rectification;
  • right to restrict processing;
  • right to data portability;
  • the right to object if your data is used for other purposes for which there is no legal obligation.

If you do not receive a response to your request within a reasonable period of time, you may lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority (CNIL) in accordance with Article 13 of the GDPR.
