Committing to the sustainable development goals

The University of Lille is basing its ecological transition on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted in 2015.

Following on from the ‘Millennium Development Goals’, which had provided a structure for those involved in global solidarity and development aid from 2000 to 2015, in September 2015 the Member States of the United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs − broken down into 169 targets) which are, as the UN states:

‘the ideal 2030 horizon for sustainable development, which involves social justice as much as economic growth, peace and solidarity as much as the preservation of ecosystems’.

The University of Lille’s ecological transition plan, which was adopted in June 2023, is based on these 17 goals. This plan sets out the university’s actions for the next ten years in terms of research, education, real estate and campuses, mobility and responsible digital technology.
