Marguerite Hanot was born in Douai on 22 June 1898.
After several certificates of higher education and a bachelor’s degree, in 1921 she obtained a postgraduate degree with a dissertation on Lippich’s black fringe, receiving honours and congratulations from the jury. In 1925, she passed the men’s agrégation competitive teaching exam, achieving 8th place in this competition.
She continued her studies with a thesis on the contribution to the study of line widths in the Balmer series, which she defended in 1927 with first-class honours. Her research enabled her to write scientific articles on the subject, notably in encyclopedias.
Marguerite Hanot was a lecturer in physics at the Lille Faculty of Science from 1926 to 1928. She then became an ‘assistante’ (junior member of the faculty’s teaching staff) in the physics laboratory. However, she resigned from her position on 31 October 1928, and there is little trace of the rest of her life, apart from her death in 2003.
