The health crisis has exacerbated food insecurity within the student community. That’s why the University of Lille is committed to structuring, consolidating and raising the profile of on- and off-campus food aid schemes and networks.
The university and its partners are mobilising

Solidarity grocery stores
With the support of the Lille European Metropolitan Region, the University of Lille works alongside student associations to create and run the solidarity grocery stores. They provide beneficiaries with food products (groceries, fresh produce, etc.), as well as hygiene and cleaning products at prices that are around 80% lower than their original prices.

Fruit and vegetable baskets
The university offers solidarity food parcels, made up of local, organic or sustainable fruit and vegetables at reduced prices. To this end, it receives financial support from the French government and the Lille European Metropolitan Region as part of the Plan de lutte contre la pauvreté (anti-poverty plan), with the support of several student associations, some of which have been active in this area for several years.
Food donations
Thanks to the mobilisation of external partners (associations, companies, foundations and even private individuals), the university also benefits from a large number of donations, which it redistributes to students at giveaways or directly to the grocery stores. The Cité Scientifique campus is also home to a local branch of the Secours Populaire Français federation for the Nord region and the Restos du Coeur charity.
