The University of Lille is committed to structuring, consolidating and raising the profile of on- and off-campus food aid schemes and networks, and is pursuing the development of alternative, innovative and/or transitional projects in a bid to provide concrete solutions to the environmental and social issues associated with purchasing and consumption.

Promoting local market gardening

Student associations (notably Les pieds sur terre and Potatoit) have been selling fruit and vegetable baskets to students, and sometimes staff, for several years. These products come from local organic farming operations, and are sold at highly affordable prices, giving more students access to local, organic and seasonal produce!

Thanks to the support provided by the French government and the Lille European Metropolitan Region since 2021 (as part of the anti-poverty plan), the University of Lille has been able to increase access to these products through the P.A.N.I.E.R.S. (‘Pour un accès à une nourriture inclusive, écologique, régionale et solidaire/For access to inclusive, environmentally friendly, regional and affordable food’) scheme.

Education for a healthier, more sustainable diet

The University of Lille also promotes access to healthier, more sustainable food. In partnership with associations such as Co-mitonne, it offers the university community zero-waste, Do It Yourself, anti-waste, low-budget culinary workshops. Quick and easy recipes using organic, seasonal produce!
